Friendly, Stylish, Functional Barriers: A Fencing Blog

Hi, my name is Kate, and I believe that whether you are putting up a white picket fence around your home or a barbed wire fence around your pasture, you deserve a fence that looks great and works well. Through the years, I have been on both sides of the fence. I have worked putting up fences, but I have also bought fences as a consumer. I decided to create a fence blog so I could share my knowledge and research with other shoppers, installers or anyone with questions. I hope you like these posts! When I'm not writing on this blog, I love to binge watch shows, read plays and take long meditative walks.

Ways to Customise a Chain Link Fence

You may think that all chain-link fences have the same appearance and use the same silver mesh. These barriers, however, can be customised in various ways, as detailed below.

Enhanced Security

If you're using chain-wire mesh for a high-security commercial setting, use razor or barbed wire around the top to deter criminals. Razor wire contains sharp metal pieces that stick out from the wire at close intervals, making it suitable for high security. Although frightening, barbed wire poses less of a hazard. It's made up of one wire and a second wire with pointed barbs wrapped around the first. Razor and barbed wire can be attached to the top of a chain-link fence in straight lines or rolls. A chain-link barrier can be nearly impenetrable with these at the top.

More Ornamental

Rather than making your chain link fence scary, you might want to make it more ornamental and appealing. Installing mesh encased in PVC in colours like green, brown, and black is one way to achieve this. The PVC gives the webbing a smooth, lustrous finish. Plus, you can powder coat the metal posts and rails in a matching colour. A black chain link fence adds a sophisticated touch to a home's outside décor. Green and brown chain mesh complement rustic settings by emulating the colours of natural vegetation.

Mixing materials and including timber in the design is another technique to make chain link fences more attractive. For instance, instead of using metal posts and rails, you can use wood ones. The wire mesh is then attached to wooden posts and secured to timber rails by your fencing contractors. The timber will need to be treated against termites and moisture. Wood has a warmer aesthetic than metal and vinyl. It helps create a lovely rustic barrier that's a bit different from the norm.

Additional Privacy

Because trespassers can't hide behind these barriers, chain link fencing helps keep your property safe. Occasionally, though, you may wish to make these fences more private. To do so, weave specifically designed slats in colours such as yellow, blue, red, and white through the diamond mesh. The slats can be made of vinyl or wood and come in many colours. You can also loop faux greenery fronds through the meshing to mimic climbing plants. However, you won't have the hassle of actual vines, which can grow out of control and require trimming.
